After joining Johnny Cash in Memphis, Marty joined Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, and Jerry Lee Lewis for the 1985 recording of the Class of ’55.

After this year, the label issued his self-titled album, which included the single “Arlene,” which reached its highest point on the Billboard Country charts at number 20. In 1986, the Mid-South magazine’s piece “Nashville’s New Hopes” gave him his first cover story.
