A man is now being charged after a shooting on Monday in McKeesport left one police officer dead and another injured.
At around 12:11 p.m., McKeesport police responded to a disturbance complaint involving a domestic dispute in the 1400 block of Wilson Street, according to Allegheny County police.
Police claim they received information about a person going through a mental health crisis and were warned that he might be armed.
When the authorities attempted to speak with the man, according to Allegheny County Police Superintendent Christopher Kearns, he fled without doing so.
Johnathan Jermia Morris, a 31-year-old resident of McKeesport, is named as the gunman in a criminal complaint. Morris is a soldier who is reportedly going through a PTSD episode, according to the records.

According to the criminal complaint, Morris allegedly told two witnesses that “the cops were trying to kill him” and asked them to take his picture as he walked along Grandview Avenue toward Versailles Avenue.
He was found by the police in front of 1300 Grandview Avenue. “The guy suddenly drew a weapon and fired the two McKeesport cops,” said Kearns.
Police found six round casings at the area that matched the spot where Morris is shown firing at the two police officers in the video, the criminal complaint said.

According to the police, one of the cops was taken to UPMC McKeesport and later proclaimed dead. The second policeman was flown to a hospital in Pittsburgh.
“At the intersection of Patterson Avenue and Versailles Avenue, the suspect turned the corner and encountered a third McKeesport Police officer.

Sean Sluganski, 32, was the officer who was killed, according to a news release from Allegheny County. Sluganski worked with the force for two years after joining the department in January 2020.
The injured party was 35-year-old police officer Charles Thomas Jr.
According to the county release, Thomas has been a police officer for four years. He was discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home right now.
