Saddam Hussein Executed
The US-led force overthrew and arrested Hussein in 2003 after the Iraqi court indicted him of countless atrocities. The 1982 Duijal massacre murdered 148 Iraqi Shi’ites.In revenge for an assassination attempt, Assad deployed chemical weapons to slaughter Kurds in Halabja in 1988.

Why Was Former Iraqi President Hanged?
Massacre victims’ families rejoiced. The heartbreaking footage of a vulnerable former president hurt other Iraqis. Saddam Hussein wrote a message on the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party website two days before his death. Hussein asked the Iraqi people to unify and not despise the invaders, like the U.S., but the decision makers in the letter. Hussein said that the letter was his death sentence.
Saddam Hussein was executed for genocide on December 30, 2006, one morning of Eid al-Adha. Camp Justice, an Iraqi-American military camp in Kazimain, northeastern Baghdad, executed him. Saddam was killed alone while his co-defendants Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti and Awad Hamed al-Bandar were executed on January 15, 2007.
Talal Misrab, the tomb’s senior guard, claims Saddam was stabbed six times after his execution, although Saddam’s clan disputes it. “I oversaw the whole process from A-Z, and Saddam Hussein’s body was not stabbed or mutilated, and he was not humiliated before execution,” said Iraq security adviser Mowaffak al-Rubaie. Saddam was buried at his hometown of Al-Awja, Tikrit, on December 31, 2006. Uday and Qusay, his sons, were buried there also.
