Chess was produced in London’s West End before going to Broadway in 1984, the same year that a concept album and concert tour were released.

Guitarist for ABBA, battling cancer, passed away

Fans have paid homage to the late ABBA guitarist Lasse Wellander, who died at the age of 70 following a battle with cancer.

The Swedish musician, who joined the band in 1974, contributed to all eight of their studio albums.

The family of Lasse released a statement on Sunday saying, “It is with unspeakable sadness that we must announce that our beloved Lasse has fallen asleep.”

Lasse Wellander, who had lately been ill with cancer that had progressed, died early on Good Friday in the company of his loved ones.

Lasse Wellander collaborated on 24 of the band’s albums while touring with Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad between 1975 and 1980.
