Seven-year-old Nikki Allan was brutally murdered. Police and 100 volunteers looked for Nikki overnight on October 8, 1992, and discovered her in the Old Exchange Building basement.
The police first concentrated on George Heron, who had just moved in with his sister in Wear Garth Flats. After witnesses saw George with Allan in the weeks before her death, George acknowledged to knowing Nikki.
Heron’s case was mostly circumstantial. In 1993, a Leeds Crown Court jury acquitted him of murder. Allan was also brought to a wasteland near the River Wear and struck in the head, bleeding. David Boyd allegedly murdered Nikki.

Boyd was requested to stand in the port for possible jurors during the trial. Jurors were questioned whether they were involved in the murder inquiry. David denied murder. Allan’s family and her babysitter’s boyfriend knew Boyd. Updates will follow.
