Chris Smith, a defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, eulogized his fiancée, who passed away in a car accident on Wednesday, on social media, writing that “God has a plan for all of us that we can’t understand.”
While the two were stopped for a flat tire, Petara Cordero was struck by a vehicle and died. Smith uploaded images and video of Cordero on his Instagram account on Friday.
With another image of Cordero, Smith has now announced the birth of their daughter Haven Harris Smith.
The Cleveland Browns claim that around 2:00 in the morning, Cordero, 26, and Smith parked their car on the shoulder of I-90 West in Cleveland. Wednesday after the explosion of a tire on Smith’s 2019 Lamborghini.
She was uninjured despite the car lurching to the left and slamming into the median.
Then, Cordero, who was standing on the shoulder, was struck by a lady driving a 2017 Mazda 3. Cleveland Police confirmed this in a statement to CNN.
Police and paramedics were on the scene not long after.
After being taken to the hospital, Cordero was declared deceased. Also taken to the hospital and subsequently discharged was the driver of the second car.
