In November, there were very serious concerns raised about Matante Alex, and other people came forward to share their experiences. The first to come forward was Montreal drag performer Denim Pussy, who described her relationship with Matante Alex from November 2019 until December 2020.
In a tweet and Instagram post, Denim accused Alex of being transphobic against her and one of her trans roommates when they shared a home. Additionally, she stated that Matante Alex (Alexandre Gemme’s real name) had physically abused her. Immediately after making her allegations against Matante Alex, Kiara, another drag queen who dated Alexandre Gemme from May to December 2018, came forward.
In her article, she charged Matante Alex with manipulation, abuse, and psychological harassment throughout their relationship in 2020. Kiara talked about the effects the alleged abuse had on her mental health and expressed regret over not stepping in to stop Denim’s physical assault.
What Charges Have Been Leveled Against Matante Alex?
French Canadian drag artist Matante Alex was in the first season of Queen of the Universe. Charges against Matante Alex included transphobia, physical assault, manipulation, abuse, and psychological harassment. Following these revelations, Gemme was accused of being a transphobic abuser and bully by non-binary artist Daphnée Schryve on her Instagram account.
Matante Alex was asked to leave Queens of the Universe by Daphnée Schryve. Gemma brought a slander case against three people, including Kiara and Denim Pussy, as a result. After making unsuccessful attempts to arrange a meeting with Kiara and Denim Pussy, Alex disputes all of the allegations and initiates libel lawsuits.
Nevertheless, the Superior Court on Tuesday rejected his request for a temporary interlocutory injunction, according to defense attorney Maryse Lapointe in Métro. Alexandre Gemme is claiming $20,000 in legal and other fees in addition to $60,000 in moral, material, and punitive damages.
Following these allegations, at least two additional people came forward on Instagram to share their own stories of abuse they had suffered at the hands of Matante Alex. The criticism spread quickly throughout the LGBTQ+ community, especially in the drag scene, and it raised questions about Matante’s behavior.
Matante persists in her career despite the ongoing problem. She is currently taking part in Queen of the Universe, a singing contest that will be broadcast worldwide on December 2. The accusations and legal proceedings have undoubtedly damaged Alex’s participation in the event as well as her reputation as a drag performer.
