Gustav Leibson, Lawson’s paternal grandpa, was a businessman from Mitau, now Jelgava in Latvia. After becoming a British subject in 1911, Gustav changed his last name from Leibson to Lawson.
His father had also attended Westminster School in London, where he earned his degree. He completed his studies at Christ Church in Oxford and graduated with honors in philosophy, politics, and economics.
