Regis, the famous fighter, was born to Vidal and Shelita Martinez Prograis. Shelita, his mother, died in Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The hurricane flooded her New Orleans house with eight feet of water. Shelita and her family withstood the hardships.
The Prograis family moved to Houston for a fresh start. Disaster persisted as Hurricane Harvey hit their city after twelve years. Shelita and her husband became homeless again. Regis, always thankful for his mother’s strength and affection, offered her a wonderful Christmas present in 2019. He arranged Christmas gifts by stacking boxes, the last one carrying a new iPhone.
Shelita was surprised to see a key in the package, indicating their new house. Regis gave his mother a house for Christmas as a meaningful Christmas gift to give her a home after years of displacement and instability.

Hurricane Katrina in 2005 destroyed New Orleans and forced him to flee to Houston. Training with Evander Holyfield at Savannah Boxing Club inspired him to start boxing seriously.
During his amateur career, he won 87 and lost 7. His boxing skills gained him accolades and a #4 rating in the US. He also won the 2009 Ringside World Championship and 2010 HORN National Championship. He won regional Golden Gloves and competed in the 2012 Olympic Trials before turning to professional boxing.
