Is Steven Spielberg a Jew or a Christian? Steven Spielberg, a well-known filmmaker, said that while always feeling proud of his Jewish identity, the abuse he experienced in school led him to feel embarrassed of it.

He spoke openly about anti-Semitism in a media interview while visiting India to interact with the country’s film industry. India Today released excerpts from the interview on Sunday.

As Spielberg spoke about his most recent Discovery Channel documentary series, “Why We Hate,” the topic of anti-Semitism came up.

Steven reflected on his own experiences and said, “When I was in elementary school, I ran against anti-Semitism at my school. Although bullying wasn’t prevalent across the whole school, certain popular students targeted less popular ones, of whom I was one as a child because of my low social status. He went on to say that his family is an Orthodox Jewish one.

Spielberg regarded the treatment as a cause of shame rather than seeing it as open hostility.

He said, “Instead of feeling rage, I felt a sense of guilt. They succeeded in making me actually feel embarrassed of my Jewish background by relentless teasing and bullying, which they knew I carried guilt over in numerous ways.
