In 1998, Brenda Tracy was the victim of a vicious gang rape by four college football players. She went to the hospital, filed a police report, and hoped that justice would be served shortly.
Unfortunately, as in so many of these cases, this did not occur. Despite the police collecting a mountain of evidence, including confessions from her assailants, the district attorney declined to prosecute her case.
When authorities obliterated her evidence three years prior to the statute of limitations, she was not informed of the rights of her victims. Her precise age is currently unknown, but she may be in her forties.
Brenda Tracy continued to live her life while coping with the traumatic experience on her own, whereas her assailants were not punished.

Who is Darius, Brenda Tracy’s son?
Brenda Tracy gave birth to her older son, Darius Adams, at the age of 18. When their mother was sexually assaulted, Darius was five and his younger sibling Devante was four.
At the time, Tracy was dating a man who had recently graduated from Oregon State. Despite their eventual separation, he supported her throughout the entire process.
Prior to Tracy’s assault, Darius and Devante’s parents divorced when they were children because of their father’s alcohol and substance problems.
For the majority of his life, Darius struggled with suicidal ideation, drug and alcohol abuse, and unjustified resentment of his mother.
Tracy made an effort to assist her high school dropout son. She did not tell Darius about her sexual assault or his father’s violence until he was 17 years old.
The experience of his mother inspired him to make a change in his life. Before joining the basketball team, Darius prioritized his academics. He continued to play basketball in college.
Darius and Devante are active members of the community alongside their mother. Together, they began the Change.org petition to implement the NCAA sexual violence policy.
Mike Riley, the head coach of the two men who sexually accosted her at the time, imposed a one-game suspension on each of them. The coach described their conduct as a “poor decision.”
Riley apologized to Tracy after an article published by The Oregonian in 2014 brought Tracy’s story to the attention of the public regarding sexual assault on college campuses.
He claimed he was unaware of the specifics of what his players had done, so he gave them a minor punishment. However, Tracy greatly valued his sincere contrition.
Following his transfer from Oregon State to the University of Nebraska, she was requested to address his athletes.
