After Cheng Li Hui abruptly left her political career, rumors began to circulate regarding her motives for leaving.

Secretary-General of the PAP and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong confessed that they have been in a love relationship since at least 2020.
In response to their letters of resignation, Lee said that the PAP’s long-standing norms of propriety and personal behavior had led to the decision to consider their resignations “necessary.”
Their respective parliamentary seats in Tampines GRC and Marine Parade GRC were vacant as a result of their engagement.
The remaining MPs in each of the two GRCs will split the duties of Tan’s Kembangan-Chai Chee division in Marine Parade GRC and Cheng’s Tampines East division in Tampines GRC.
