On Friday, October 7, 2016, Kurt Veldhuizen, 80, of rural Doon, Iowa, passed away at home from brain cancer. Kurt’s struggle with cancer has a big impact on his life; it affects everything from achievement to failure, optimism to terror. His friends and family support him unconditionally, share their victories with him, and give comfort when things are tough.
But when Cancer claims a life after a heroic battle, the anguish that ensues can be crippling. Once the first shock wears off, there’s a mixture of deep sadness, skepticism, and emptiness. Kurt left a huge void behind, and their perseverance and strength are remembered as valuable gems.
Kurt Van Veldhuizen Funeral And Obituary
The funeral ceremony was held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Rev. Dan Haggar and his nephew, Rev. Rob Horstman, would preside over the event. Lunch was served following the service, and the dead were buried at Rock Valley’s Valley View Cemetery at 2:15 p.m.
On Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., the family was visited by guests at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa. On behalf of the family, the Hospice Beecin Foundation would be pleased to accept memorial donations. His family and friends will remember his legacy of distinct character and accomplishments in the industry for a very long time.

Who Is Kurt Veldhuizen?
John H. Van Veldhuizen, the son of Henry and Dena (Brinkman) Van Veldhuizen, was born on September 14, 1936, in the vicinity of Hull, Iowa. On May 28, 1958, he wed Charlene Van Maanen on a farm outside of Inwood, Iowa. Before relocating to Ripon, California, to work for Wallenburg Construction, he started his career in Hull with Kooikers.
They went back to Iowa, where he took a temporary job driving an ice cream truck. After beginning to farm near Hudson, South Dakota, they eventually relocated to become closer to Doon and Alvord. John was a farmer for eight years at Hope Haven in Rock Valley. He taught Sunday school, assisted with the youth club, and held the position of Elder at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. He also loved spending countless Sunday dinners with his family, and together they took pleasure in taking cruises to places like Alaska, Hawaii, Jamaica, and Panama.
