Craig Mokhiber, the head of a human rights group, says that the US, the UK, and most of Europe are “wholly complicit in the horrific assault.”
Craig Mokhiber has been an employee of the United Nations since 1992, occupying a succession of increasingly critical roles.
He oversaw the high commissioner’s efforts to construct a human rights-centered development strategy and advised the high commissioner on human rights in Palestine, Afghanistan, and Sudan.
In the 1990s, he was an attorney specializing in international human rights law who resided in Gaza.
As the director of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Office in New York, he has been subject to intermittent criticism from pro-Israeli organizations regarding his statements on social media.

Why Did Craig Mokhiber Resign?
The director of the New York office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights tendered his resignation, asserting that the United States, the United Kingdom, and the majority of Europe were “completely complicit in the abhorrent assault.”
Furthermore, he charged the United Nations with “failing” to prevent the genocide of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, which he characterizes as Israeli bombardment.
Craig Mokhiber notified Volker Turk, the United Nations high commissioner in Geneva, in a letter dated October 28 that this would be their last correspondence while he was employed in New York.
“Once more, we are witnessing the unfolding of a genocide, and it appears that the organization we serve cannot stop it,” wrote Mokhiber, who was retiring at the age of fifty.
Citing the United Nations’ previous inability to prevent genocides against the Tutsis in Rwanda, Muslims in Bosnia, Yazidis in Iraqi Kurdistan, and Rohingya in Myanmar, he stated,
“High Commissioner, we are failing once more.”

After thirty years in the position, Craig Mokhiber purportedly tendered his resignation as director of the New York Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, citing the organization’s management of the Israel-Hamas conflict as the reason.
Before notifying the High Commissioner of his impending resignation, Mokhiber penned the following: “Our decision not to resign from the United Nations should not be based on its previous shortcomings in the Palestine conflict.”
