She struggled to complete even basic duties, and her quality of life was greatly diminished. In July 2022, Statler decided to have a full jaw replacement to end her agony, which necessitated her traveling to a foreign nation. In a similar vein, Statler’s ordeal continued after his surgery was successful. When her medical insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, rejected her claim for jaw replacement surgery in January 2021, she was put in legal hot water. In August of the same year, the refusal was maintained despite an appeal of the ruling. She sued the insurance company because she was having financial difficulties and claimed that since her operation was the consequence of an accident, it should have been paid for.
The complaint exposed the exorbitant expense of the operations and the ensuing $75,000 in rehabilitation treatment. The emotional toll that Statler had to bear during her voyage was increased by this financial weight. Fortunately, the matter was negotiated out of court and dismissed with prejudice, ending the judicial battle. Statler Could Not Walk After Heat Stroke
Formerly an enthusiastic cyclist, Statler experienced a life-changing incident in 2014 that left him unable to walk. She had a heat stroke that had serious repercussions while riding from Seattle to Anacortes, then across Idaho to Glacier National Park in Montana. She developed complications from the heat stroke and eventually lost her ability to walk. A rise in core body temperature brought on by extended exposure to high temperatures is known as heat stroke, a serious disorder.
