Egbuka, an Ohio State football student-athlete from Steilacoom, Washington, is very proud of his heritage. Emeka attributes his strong family values and cultural roots to his Nigerian father, who immigrated to the United States when he was 20 years old. Emeka Egbuka’s father was born in Enugu, Southeastern Nigeria, and emigrated to the United States in 1996.
He is a former athlete and civil engineer who was invited to try out for the Nigeria youth national soccer team. He then switched to tennis, where he competed in prestigious tournaments. Emeka’s mother is an American who graduated from Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Washington, with a master’s degree in Management of Information Systems.
She, too, has a strong athletic background, having been a three-sport standout in high school at Steilacoom. She is presently the Director of Data and Analytics for Kaiser Permanente, a well-known Washington-based healthcare institution.
Emeka Egbuka is not traveling alone with his family; he is joined by his younger brother, Keanan Egbuka. Emeka attributes much of his success to his parents, recognizing their role in instilling a strong work ethic and a passion for excellence in him. Emeka Egbuka took a risk by enrolling as an early enrollee at Ohio State in January 2021, missing his senior season at Steilacoom, a decision motivated by the COVID-19-related spring season relocation. During his rookie season, he appeared in 11 games and caught nine passes for 191 yards.
Notably, Egbuka established himself as a powerful kickoff returner, accumulating 580 yards and earning honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference honors. Egbuka surpassed 1,000 receiving yards as a sophomore in 2022, which was a significant accomplishment in his career.
