Thierry Despont’s career details
New York City served as the home base for French architect, designer, and artist Thierry Despont. In the 1980s, he worked as an assistant architect on the Statue of Liberty restoration project.
He was engaged by Leslie Wexner, the billionaire of Limited Inc., to renovate the Herbert N. Straus House, located in Manhattan at 9 East 72nd Street.
Among the well-known buildings in Manhattan for which he designed the interiors are 220 Central Park South, 53W53, and the Woolworth Building.
He designed the decor of London’s Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s restaurant at the beginning of the new millennium.
In 2005 he made modifications to The Promenade restaurant at the Dorchester, including the installation of an oval leather bar that matched Nelson’s Column in length.
Between 2007 and 2010, he converted the historic Lambs Club clubhouse in New York City into the Chatwal New York hotel.
