Tragically, Roy Wiegand, a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Glendale and a native of Las Vegas, California, passed away. He was pronounced dead on Monday, July 31, 2023, according to a social media post. He was riding a bike for charity when he was hit by a truck, something he did regularly.
Roy Wiegand was killed by a pickup truck while participating in “Roy’s Ride,” a fantastic cause. To collect money for the Navajo water project and help the people of the Navajo Nation who are suffering from water shortages, the Las Vegas native rode 2,500 miles from Los Angeles to Mexico to San Francisco and back to Southern California.

His 2,500-mile bicycle ride was a component of a $25,000 fundraising campaign to equip Navajo Nation homes with solar power and clean running water. In all, Weigand raised about $28,000. Wiegand is survived by his wife and two kids. Friends say that no one who ever met him would ever forget him, especially because of his commitment to his causes.
“Numb shocked and devastated by the news that one of my greatest friends on the trumpet here in LA, Roy Wiegand III, was struck and killed while riding his bicycle for a good cause yesterday,” writes Roy’s best buddy, Chris Tedesco.
