On Monday, representatives of the arrested Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny—whose whereabouts are unknown—announced that they haven’t heard from him.
It was stated that Navalny was detained in a prison colony around 150 miles east of Moscow.
Navalny was sentenced to 19 years in prison in August after being found guilty of many charges, including supporting extremist activity and creating an extremist society.
He was already serving an 11-and-a-half-year term in a maximum security facility on charges, including fraud, that he won’t acknowledge.
The argument put up by Navalny’s followers is that his arrest and incarceration are politically motivated efforts to keep him quiet when he criticizes Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Spokesman Kira Yarmysh said on X on Monday that lawyers have tried many times to enter the two prison colonies where Navalny—who has struggled with serious health issues—is believed to reside.
“They were informed that the 47-year-old was not at the IK-6 or IK-7 penal colonies,” Yarmysh said.
Previously, Navalny was kept in the east of Moscow, at the IK-6 prison colony.

Navalny continued, saying, “Putin is well aware of who his main opponent in these ‘elections’ is. He also wants to make sure that Navalny’s voice is muted.
There was no immediate reaction from the Kremlin. Putin and his spokesmen go out of their way to avoid mentioning Navalny by name in an attempt to portray him as politically irrelevant.
It is said that he receives the same treatment as other inmates.
