How did Tommy Haas start his Professional Career?

Four years of age was when Tommy Haas began practicing tennis. He had independently honed his abilities by striking balls against the wall or into his father’s palms using a wooden board.

In 1996, he competed in his first grand slam in the United States after turning professional. However, he was defeated in four sets by his countryman Michael Stitch in the first round.

Furthermore, he has acquired four ATP titles, the most recent being the Master’s trophy in 2001. In 2002, he advanced to the semifinals by defeating Todd Martin, Roger Federer, and Marcelo Rios each in five sets. The year 2004 marked two more ATP titles added to his tally during his revival.

In 2006, he advanced to the quarterfinals and captured three ATP titles. He needed to win the Paris Masters to qualify for the ATP year-ending championship, the Master’s Cup. A first-time Grand Slam finalist in 2007, Fernando González of Chile emerged victorious in consecutive sets.

His classification plummeted, much like it did in 2008 when he was forced to forego the Australian Open and the French Open due to injury.

Despite having a break in each set, he was defeated in the third round of the 2009 US Open by Fernando Verdasco. Similarly, he was unable to play between 2010 and 2011 due to a second illness.

In the latter half of the 2012 season, he regained his form and advanced to the final of the German Open Tennis Championships. He won his first championship of the year by defeating Philipp Kohlschreiber in an all-German final held in Munich.

The following year, he prevailed over Fernando Verdasco in a five-set first-round match. Likewise, he participated in his concluding match in Kitzbühel in 2017. He announced his retirement from the ATP World Tour earlier this year, in 2018.
