Seth Greenberg is a college basketball analyst for ESPN. He is a vocal advocate for cancer research. However, there are rumors that he, too, is suffering from cancer. Is this correct?
Greenberg, the former basketball coach of Virginia Tech, does not have cancer. However, because his father died of lung cancer, he describes his battle as “very personal.” Seth Vincent Greenberg, a Plainview, New York native, is an ESPN analyst and former college basketball coach.
He’ll be working alongside basketball reporters Malika Andrews, Mike Greenberg, Richard Jefferson, and Doris Burke. He was a former Fairleigh Dickinson University basketball player who went on to become a coach immediately after graduating in 1978.
Seth worked as an assistant coach at Columbia, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Miami before joining Joe Harrington’s Long Beach State staff as an associate head coach in 1987. From 1990 until 1996, he was the head coach at Long Beach State. There, he taught NBA talents like Lucious Harris and Bryon Russell.
Greenberg coached the South Florida Bulls from 1996 to 2003 and Virginia Tech from 2003 to 2012. He retired as a head coach in 2012 with a 383-293 record and became an ESPN college basketball analyst.

Seth Greenberg, the former Long Beach State head coach, is still alive and well in 2024. There has yet to be a word about his health problems or illness. He was in good health when he attended his youngest daughter, Page’s, wedding in late September 2023. In addition, he used Instagram to display images from wedding events.
Greenberg’s late father, Ralph Greenberg, died of lung cancer in 1996, contrary to popular assumption. As a result, he is engaged in a “personal battle” with cancer and advocates for cancer research. He tweeted about a benefit for The V Foundation in December 2017, writing,
“I lost my father to cancer.” I miss him, as do so many others who have lost loved ones. We must find a cure.”
Furthermore, the condition has had an emotional impact on him in a variety of ways. Allen Calloway, a Virginia Tech player, died of cancer in 2009, while Coleman Collins, another player, lost his father to lung disease in 2006. Seth told The Roanoke Times in September 2010 about the Coaches against them. Cancer effort, saying, “It’s a cause that’s very dear to my heart.” It means a great deal to us.”

Seth Greenberg is one of Marilyn and Ralph Greenberg’s three children. His older brother, Brad, also coaches basketball for the Puerto Rican team Cangrjeros de Santurce (2023-present). Karen Greenberg, Seth’s wife, and he have been married for 37 years. They married in May 1986 and recently celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary. The couple’s three daughters are Ella, Paige, and Jackie. The daughters of the former basketball coach are now grownups with their own families.

Greenberg, Ella Rash has been married to Andrew Rash, Greenberg’s son, on May 30, 2015. They met at Virginia Tech and graduated together. Their two daughters, Amelia and Gigi, are their only offspring. Ella is the owner/president of Allyn Contracting Services and a Virginia-licensed realtor.
Andrew, her husband, has worked as a project manager and estimator at STAFFORD SYSTEMS, INC. from 2018 until the present. Paige Greenberg Armold, Seth’s second daughter, and her husband, James Armold, have a daughter and a boy named Pat. James is DC United’s senior VP of Ticket Sales and Service.
On May 15, 2021, they will marry at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Spring, West Virginia. The youngest daughter, Jessica Greenberg Lyon, lives with her boyfriend-turned-husband, John Lyon. The couple will marry in September 2023. Jessica, alias Jackie, earned her law degree from Syracuse University in 2010.
