Is Mel Tucker let go? Melvin Gene Tucker II is an American football coach and former player.
He now serves as the head football coach at Michigan State University, a position he has had since 2020. Before this, Tucker was the 2019 head football coach at Colorado.
Tucker was the interim head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars for the final five games of the 2011 NFL season.
He has been the defensive coordinator for the NFL’s Chicago Bears and the Tide as well as the defensive backs coach at Ohio State, Alabama, and the University of Georgia.
Mel Tucker became one of the highest-paid college football coaches in history when Michigan State offered him a guaranteed 10-year, $95 million contract in November 2021. This was the third-largest contract ever given to a football coach at a public university.
Is Mel Tucker Let Go?
To fight the pervasiveness of sexual abuse in sports, a well-known rape survivor and one of the nation’s best college football coaches teamed up two years ago.
Their partnership should have had a beneficial effect. Rather, it has become a scandal as the activist charges the coach of acting in a way that they both denounced.
Mel Tucker, Michigan State University’s head football coach and one of the highest-paid coaches in sports, is the defendant.
The person accusing him is Brenda Tracy, a rape survivor who has devoted her life to warning athletes about sexual abuse.
They developed a working relationship over eight months, predicated on her lobbying activities.
Three invitations to visit Tucker’s campus were issued to Tracy: twice for an address to his players and staff, and once to accept an honorary captaincy at the team’s spring football game.
Mel Tucker’s Scandal and Comment Controversy
Brenda Tracy alleges that Tucker asked her to share her terrible story of being raped 25 years ago by three players from Oregon State University and a high school recruit with student-athletes.
Brenda Tracy graciously embraced USA Today’s recognition of her.
In addition to being recognized for her advocacy work with her non-profit, Set the Expectation, Tracy has gotten multiple invites to the university to speak with the MSU football team.
She was honored to have an honorary captain for the spring game the previous year. Tracy has inspired thousands of athletes on over 100 college campuses with her motivational talks.
According to Tracy, their exchanges led to their becoming friends. However, according to her, Tucker began engaging in non-consensual phone sex on April 28, 2022.
Tracy fiercely insists that she did not approve of this behavior and that in December 2022, she lodged a complaint with the school.
In response to Tracy’s complaint, Tucker disputed the claims made by Tracy to the Title IX investigator that MSU had hired to investigate the matter.
Tucker was asked about the circumstances by a reporter from USA Today, but he declined to respond.
In contrast, he stated that “Ms. Tracy’s distortion of our mutually consensual and intimate relationship into allegations of sexual exploitation has affected me” in a letter he sent to a Title IX investigator in March.
Tucker argued that he had broken no norms of conduct, even if he admitted he wasn’t all that proud of his judgment.
