South Alabama’s head coach, Major Applewhite, and his wife, Julie Applewhite, have been happily married for 19 years. Julie has been Major’s consistent support system during their journey together.
The couple is also blessed with two children, forming a loving family. Major Applewhite reached a significant professional milestone on January 18th, when he was named the fourth head coach of South Alabama Football. Joel Erdmann, Director of Athletics, announced Applewhite’s hiring in January 2024.
Applewhite formerly served as the South Alabama Jaguars’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Major Lee Applewhite, born July 26, 1978, was a successful college football quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. After retiring from playing, Applewhite went into coaching and continued to win. Notably, he was the head coach at the University of Houston from 2017 to 2018, leading the club to some impressive victories.

Major Applewhite, the head coach, married his wife, Julie, on July 15, 2005. Julie, Major Applewhite’s wife, was born in San Antonio, Texas, and attended Robert E. Lee High School. She went on to earn a psychology degree from the University of Texas. Julie is not just a mother and wife, but also a career-driven woman. She has been a Realtor with LLB&B, Inc. Real Estate since July 2021.
Julie previously worked as the Client Relations Manager for Fulbright & Jaworski LLP. She also worked as a professional development manager for Fulbright & Jaworski LLP from 2006 to 2007. Julie gained real estate experience after leaving Fulbright, working as a realtor for H.A. Edwards, Inc. in Tuscaloosa for one year. Julie, a working woman, is also a supportive wife. She has had a positive influence on Major Applewhite’s coaching career.
The Couple Had Two Kids Together
The Applewhites have been happily married for 19 years and have two lovely children. Their family currently resides in Mobile, Alabama. They married in 2005 and welcomed their first child, Lila, in March 2009. Lila is currently 14 years old. In April 2016, the couple had their second child, Nash Applewhite, a boy.
Julie has recently posted a photo of her family in response to Major’s recent hiring as South Alabama’s head coach. They attended the event to commemorate their father and husband’s significant achievements.
Did Major Applewhite Cheat on His Wife?
During the 2009 Fiesta Bowl, Major Applewhite, a former University of Texas assistant coach, had a consensual relationship with an adult student. Although the event occurred in 2009, it was not made public until 2013, when the University of Texas disclosed another incident involving students.
Applewhite’s wife was expecting their first child when the incident took place. After being questioned about the incident, Applewhite issued a statement accepting full responsibility for his actions and promising not to participate in such behavior in the future.
