Bobby Bonilla, a former New York Mets player, has recently garnered fame. This all started with Shohei Ohtani’s new contract with the Dodgers. Shohei Ohtani, a Japanese baseball star, has agreed to a $700 million, ten-year contract with the Dodgers. However, he has agreed to postpone $680 million until after the contract expires.
In 2000, Bonilla agreed to a similar contract with the New York Mets. The Mets have decided to buy out Bonilla’s remaining $5.9 million contract. Instead of paying him $5.9 million right now, the Mets agreed to pay him about $1.2 million per year for the next 25 years, commencing July 1, 2011. This is also one of the reasons that July 1 is known as “Bobby Bonilla Day.”

Bobby Bonilla, a former player for the New York Mets, is Puerto Rican. But he is a New Yorker through and through. Bonilla was born and raised in the Bronx, in a large family with twin sisters and a brother. His father, Roberto Sr., was an electrician, while his mother, Regina, was a homemaker.
In a 1991 interview with the New York Times, Bonilla detailed his rough beginnings in the South Bronx. Gang members have made the region difficult to live in. Bonilla reported an incident that happened when he was out grocery shopping. He had just walked outside the door when he heard gunshots and rushed to his mother, warning her she might have to sort through the stuff.
The former MLB star grew up idolizing his parents, he admitted. They had worked hard to realise his vision. Unfortunately, his parents did not remain together, but Bonilla had a close relationship with his stepmother Ann. Ann, his parents, brothers, uncles, aunts, and cousins were all present on the day Bonilla was announced as a New York Mets player in 1991.
In recent years, Bonilla has actively promoted baseball in Puerto Rico. Bonilla, along with numerous other Puerto Rican-origin baseball stars, formed the union that established Puerto Rico’s summer league in 2014. The summer league was one method for increasing opportunities for Puerto Rican youth to enter the MLB.

Bobby Bonilla almost had the perfect love story until his terrible divorce in 2009. Bonilla wed his high school sweetheart, Madiglia “Millie” Bonilla, in the late 1980s. The couple has two children, Brandon and Danielle. Bobby had stated in past interviews that his Millie helped him keep his mind clear, but it appears that things deteriorated after retirement.
The former couple had a lengthy legal battle, with the judge ordering Bobby to divide his assets with her. Millie accused Bobby of holding back. However, by 2011, it appeared like everything had been resolved, and Bobby began to get his delayed pay from the New York Mets.
Bobby is married to Christina Solomon-Bonilla, and they have a son named Roman Solomon. Brandon, Bobby’s oldest child, followed in his footsteps. Brandon was born on October 21, 1993, and played collegiate baseball at Grand Canyon University before joining the Baltimore Orioles. He was the Orioles’ 25th-round pick in 2014.
Unlike his father, Brandon had no desire to play in the major leagues. Brandon last played in the New York-Pennsylvania League in 2018 with the Aberdeen IronBirds. Bobby and his family have stayed off social media. But Bonilla has given a few interviews in recent years, including one with CBS News in 2017.
