Cheng served as Tampines GRC’s Tampines East ward MP and chairman of the Tampines Town Council. During the first and second sessions of the 13th Parliament, she was a member of the Estimates Committee. Furthermore, during the first session of the 14th Parliament, she served as a member of the House Committee. She joined the PAP Women’s Wing as a deputy district adviser in 2016.
Hai Leck was re-designated as a non-executive director in January 2018, based on her financial records. Her role ended in late 2019. Her siblings, Cheng Wee Ling, Cheng Li Chen, and Cheng Yao Tong, are still employed by Hai Leck and a subsidiary, according to 2022 financial documents.
