Lilia Vu plays professional golf. She was born in the United States to Douglas Vu and Kieu Thuy, although her ancestors are Asian.
She is the younger sister of two children born to Vietnamese-American parents. Lilia’s father, Douglas, is a California native, but her mother came to the United States with her family in the 1980s to flee war-torn Vietnam. Vu is aware of what her parents and grandparents have done in the past to provide a better future for their family.
She recalled this when she received the 2023 Chevron Championship trophy in April of this year, and she dedicated it to her late grandfather. Lilia Kha-Tu Du Vu, better known as Lilia Vu, is an American golfer who began playing at an early age thanks to her father’s encouragement. She went on to play golf for Fountain Valley High School, where Carter Keyser was her coach.
She went on to study Political Science at the University of California, Los Angeles, while still participating on her collegiate golf team. Lilia turned pro in 2019 after leaving UCLA after her junior season. She won three Symetra Tour championships two years later and ascended to the top 250 in the Women’s Golf World Rankings.

Lilia Vu was born in Fountain Valley, California, on October 14, 1997, to Douglas Vu and Yvonne Kieu Thuy. Douglas and Lilia’s mother, Yvonne Kieu Thuy, married on February 9, 1991. Her father, Douglas, has been a golf instructor at David L. Baker Golf Course in California, just north of Mile Square Park, for many years.
Even though Yvonne was not a particularly excellent player at the time, the two enjoyed playing the game together regularly. Her favorite sport, on the other hand, has always been golf. Douglas spent most of his time teaching golf to their children once they were born. Lilia’s mother, Kieu Thuy, is also a real estate agent and the vice president of Future USA, LLC.

Lilia Vu’s lone sibling, Andre Minh-Tuan Vu, was born three years earlier in California to her parents, Douglas and Yvonne. Andre had been a dedicated golfer since high school, having learned the game from his father. He was a four-year letter winner in golf for Fountain Valley, where he played for coach Carter Keyser.
After graduation, he continued his golf career and went on to study Communication and Media at the University of California, Riverdale. After graduating from college in 2018, he became a pro. Andre currently lives with his partner in Huntington Beach, California.

Lilia Vu is a professional golfer from Fountain Valley, California. She is, nonetheless, of Vietnamese origin through both of her parents. Douglas, her father, was born and raised in the United States, although coming from a Vietnamese background. Her mother, Kieu Thuy, came to the United States some years after her daughter was born in Vietnam. Her family was still in Vietnam when the war ended in 1975.
Thuy’s family had hoped for a better life after the war, but her father, Dinh Du, had turned pessimistic. They escaped the country on a boat and arrived in the United States in 1982. Lilia currently holds American citizenship and represents the United States in international competitions. Her mother misses Vietnam, and they visit family members who live there on occasion.
