Marty Stuart’s Net Worth $8 Million

John Martin Stuart is of French, English, Choctaw, and Colombian descent. He was obsessed with music from an early age and was fascinated with country style, so he learned to play mandolin and guitar.

His first work in the music industry came at 12 years of age with the bluegrass group “The Sullivan Family” in 1970. Two years later, Stuart met “Lester Flatt” band member Roland White, who offered Stuart a gig at the Nashville Grass Festival in Delaware which Marty accepted, and soon after permanently joined the “Lester Flatt” band, although only 14 at the time.

Marty Stuart stayed with “Lester Flatt” until 1978 when Lester broke up the band due to his illness; he died in 1979. Stuart pursued a solo career and released his debut album “With a Little Help From My Friends” in 1979. In the same year, he collaborated with fiddler Vassar Clements and guitarist Doc Watson, before joining Johnny Cash’s backing band in 1980.

“Busy Bee Café” was Stuart’s second album in 1982, but like the first one, this album failed to gain much recognition. Marty married Cash’s daughter, Cindy in 1983, but they divorced five years later. Stuart left Cash’s band in 1985 to fully concentrate on a solo career. Later that year, Stuart penned a contract with Columbia Records and released his third album which was a lot more successful than the previous two. The single “Arlene” reached the Top 20 chart and helped him to earn a significant amount of money.

Stuart made a deal with MCI Records in 1989 and released his next album called “Hillbilly Rock” in 1990, one of the best albums of his career, and it received many positive critiques. The self-titled track reached the Top 10, Stuart’s first ever. In 1991, the “Tempted” album came out, and the track with the same name reached the Top 5, which remains Stuart’s biggest success on the charts. At this moment, he was one of the most popular country artists in the US.

“This One’s Gonna Hurt You” was released in 1992, but after that, Stuart’s career declined somewhat. However, he still released several albums including “Love and Luck” (1994), “Honky Tonkin’s What I Do Best” (1996), and “The Pilgrim” in 1999. The 2000s weren’t prolific for Stuart, but his most notable albums were “Country Music” (2003), “Souls’ Chapel” (2005), and “Ghost Train: The Studio B Sessions” in 2010. Stuart’s most recent work is “Saturday Night / Sunday Morning”, released in 2014.
Thanks to his talents, Stuart has won five Grammy awards for his work, and he is also a member of the Country Music Foundation board. Regarding his personal life, Stuart has now been married to the country singer Connie Smith since 1997.
