Julius Yego was born in Kenya on January 4, 1989. Kenyan javelin thrower who, in 2013, set a national record in the event with a distance of 85.40 meters. He is the winner of such events as the 2012 African Championships in Athletics and the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He beat out Trinidadian Olympic gold medalist Keshorn Walcott at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He was inspired to pursue javelin throwing after seeing videos of great throwers like Jan Zelezny on YouTube. He won the national junior title in 2006.

A javelin thrower who competes for Kenya in track and field. Mr. YouTube was given the moniker because he learned to throw after watching YouTube videos of javelin athletes. He won the javelin at the 2011 All-Africa Games and the African Athletics Championships in 2012 and 2014; he finished fourth at the 2013 World Championships, missing a bronze in the final round. In 2014, he became the first Kenyan to win a gold medal in a field event at the Commonwealth Games. With a throw of 92.72 meters at the 2015 World Championships, he became the first Kenyan to win a World Championships gold medal in a field event. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, he won silver.
