Saunders joined ESPN in 1986 and was the presenter of ESPN’s The Sports Reporters from September 2001 until Dick Schaap’s illness and death. From 1987 to 1989, he was a co-host of NFL Primetime. When the principal host, Tom Mees, was unavailable, he served as the secondary studio presenter for the network’s NHL broadcasts from 1986–87 to 1988. From 1992 to 2004, he was the principal studio anchor for ABC, hosting NHL on ABC from 1992 to 1994 and again from 2000 to 2004, as well as hosting College Football on ABC from 1992 to 2015. He has also hosted ABC’s baseball coverage under the Baseball Night in America banner and was previously part of ESPN’s coverage. He also served as the anchor during the 1995 World Series.
