Robin RobertsThis year, American journalist Robin Roberts announced her intention to marry her longtime girlfriend, Amber Laign.
On Good Morning America on January 2, the 62-year-old star told motivational speaker Gabrielle Bernste that she was “hesitating” because the news had not yet been announced.
She stated, ”
“I’ve decided to marry. We’re getting married this year.”
Robin Roberts went on to say that the couple had previously had to postpone their wedding because Laign became ill after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
She stated, ”
“It was something we had talked about but had put off because she got sick, but… it is saying yes to that, and that new chapter.”
Robin Roberts and Amber Laign met on a blind date
Robin and Amber Laign first met in 2005 on a blind date set up by mutual friends. They were secretly dating until 2013 when Roberts came out as gay in a Facebook post. The Good Morning America host shared a photo of herself playing with a puppy and thanked her family and friends for their help as she recovered from a bone marrow transplant.
She stated, ”
“I am grateful to God, my doctors, and nurses for my improved health. I am grateful to Sally-Ann, my donor, for giving me the gift of life. As we approach the new year, I am grateful for my entire family, my long-term partner, Amber, and our friends.”
In 2014, Roberts admitted on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she had not spoken publicly about Amber despite the fact that they had been dating since 2005.
Robin Roberts stated, ”
“Not everyone desires to be the focus of attention. She’s been there for me every step of the way and is extremely encouraging.”
Amber Laign is a massage therapist and the co-founder of Plant Juice Oils, a product line for women’s wellness. Robin Roberts and Amber have two residences: the host’s opulent Manhattan apartment near her GMA studio, and a Connecticut home where they reside when Roberts is not filming for the show.
Amber, whose Instagram account is private, joined the site in 2020 and shared a photo from their first meeting in 2005. She stated, according to Hello Magazine:
“I met you 15 years ago for cocktails on a blind date that both of us tried to cancel… twice. Your elegance drew my attention right away, and the ease of the evening lasted all the way through supper. We went on another date soon after, and I couldn’t believe how at ease I felt with you as we talked about our lives over lychee and apple martinis.”
Amber and Robin have both overcome cancer. Amber’s caregiver, Roberts, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. Laign was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, and Robin made the announcement online in early 2022. On October 24, 2022, Robin Roberts released a video thanking fans for their well-wishes for Laign’s recovery.
She stated, ”
“We just wanted to thank you for your ongoing prayers, which we will return tenfold. Have a fantastic day.”
Robin Roberts also included a message for people dealing with health issues.
