The Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned Bill Cosby’s 2018 sexual assault convictions for drugging and molesting Andrea Constand in her own home in 2004. According to the judgment, his case will not be prosecuted shortly.
As the decision created a storm of condemnation in Hollywood, his co-star, who stuck by him, received her fair share.
Rashad, who plays the actor’s on-screen wife, has publicly stated her support and concerns for the actor, which is causing her significant grief. Why? The criticism began with her ridiculous tweets cheering the court’s judgment in favor of her on-screen husband Bill Cosby.
The outcry was predictable; as the newly appointed Dean of Fine Arts at Howard University, she had to write a letter to students and parents apologizing for the tweet that provoked controversy.
She wrote,
“My comments were not meant towards survivors of sexual assault.” I am adamantly opposed to sexual violence and see no justification for such behavior, and I am aware that Howard University has a zero-tolerance policy for interpersonal violence.”
To summarize, Rashad was appointed dean of Howard University’s College of Fine Arts on July 1, 2021, and her tenure began on that date. It was much easier for her because she was a Howard University graduate!
Where It All Began
Howard University awarded Phylicia Rashad a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1970. She rose to prominence thanks to her Broadway credits, and she then went on to star in the 1980s blockbuster The Cosby Show, where she played the character of on-screen spouse Bill Cosby’s on-screen wife.
She is now returning to her roots by becoming the greatest choice for the post.
Rashad, according to Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick, is best suited for the job, and he expresses his thoughts by saying-
“There is no one better equipped to take on this duty than Ms. Phylicia Rashad…
Given Ms. Rashad’s reputation, ability, and outstanding list of accomplishments, she will enable the college to exceed even our exceedingly high expectations…”
He continues by saying-
“Under her direction, Howard will continue to inspire and develop the artists and leaders who will mold our niche and national cultures for future generations.”
She says in an interview with the Washington Post-
“I’d like to see the work that was developed during my tenure bloom again with a fresh vigor…
I’d want to see a program updated without losing information…
I want to see the College of Fine Arts not only rebuilt but celebrated.”
Working with the administration, staff, and students to re-establish the College of Fine Arts is an honor, according to Rashad.
Rashad is also the first black actress to win a Tony Award. She has received numerous honors, including the BET Honors Theatrical Arts Award, the Drama Desk Award, the Spirit of Shakespeare Award from the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, the People’s Choice Awards, and many more. In 2016, she was also inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame.
Sister with Equal Ability
Phylicia Rashad is not the family’s sole talent. Rashad is the daughter of Vivian Ayers, a Pulitzer Prize-nominated artist, poet, and publisher, and Andrew Arthur Allen, an orthodontist. Her siblings include a jazz musician brother, Andrew Arthur Allen, Jr., a real estate banker brother, Hugh Allen, and a three-time Emmy Award winner sister, Debbie Allen.
Rashad also presented the CBS-TV broadcast of the KC Honors ceremony, which was given to her sister Debbie Allen. On May 7, 2021, Phylicia announced the news on social media. Similarly, Rashad released a series of photos from her sister’s honoring celebration with her family members on May 24, 2021.
Who is Phylicia Rashad’s husband?
Rashad married dentist William Lancelot Bowles, Jr. on May 13, 1972, after graduating from Howard University, and they had a son, William Lancelot Bowles III. Their marriage, however, ended in divorce in 1985. Both Rashad and her ex-husband have kept the reason for their divorce private.
She later married Victor Willis, the original lead singer of Village People.
Rashad met Victor in 1978, during the run of The Wiz. Later, their relationship soured, and the couple divorced in 1982. Following that, Victor began dating his now-wife, Karen Willis. She is a lawyer who also works in the entertainment industry. In 2007, the couple married.
She also gave love a second opportunity by marrying her ex-husband, retired NFL wide receiver and sportscaster Ahmad Rashad, on December 14, 1985.
Her ex-husband Ahmad went on to purpose Phylicia Rashad on national television.
It all transpired during the halftime show of NBC’s Thanksgiving Day telecast of the Detroit Lions vs. New York Jets game.
On December 11, 1986, they welcomed their daughter Condola Phylea Rashad into the world in New York.
The pair had been married for more than 15 years when they decided to divorce in 2001.
Her ex-husband married twice more after the divorce.
Phylicia hasn’t been in many relationships, dating or marriage-related, since going through three divorces. And it appears that she is over relationships and husbands.
She told OWN TV that she doesn’t feel like she’s been married once, despite having three spouses in the past. She cried out-

Condola Rashad, like her mother Phylicia Rashad, is an American actress best recognized for her work on Broadway. She is one of the most nominated performers in her age group. Condola gained numerous critical acclaims while co-starring on Broadway with Orlando Bloom in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Condola has already been nominated for two Tony Awards during her brief stint as a Hollywood celebrity, and she has a recurring role on NBC’s Smash.
She also appeared alongside Queen Latifah in the 2012 TV version of Steel Magnolias. She has been providing her acting talents to the drama series Billions since 2016.
