Anika Noni Rose, the Princess, and the Frog actress announced her marriage to Jason Dirden in October 2022 in Brides magazine on Monday, January 16.
According to the magazine, Rose planned a surprise for their first dance, which they performed to Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me, which Rose re-recorded in just one day. Anika Noni Rose stated that no one was aware of her hectic schedule until she began singing, at which point everyone recognized her. Jason explained the surprise to the magazine:
“My first thought was, “I had no idea I married a liar!” It was incredible, emotional, and something I never expected to see.”
The ceremony was officiated by Euphoria actor Colman Domingo at the Paramour Estate in California. Anika reported that Colman “started performing the electric slide” as soon as the wedding guests entered the dance floor. According to Brides Magazine, she stated:
“Everyone knows how to do a line dance, so people of all ages danced to it — there was a great intergenerational pleasure and connection to watch.”
The couple rode away from the ceremony on a bike purchased by Anika Noni Rose’s relative. Rose shared her entire experience with the journal, including how she learned to let go of control at times during the planning phase.
“‘Every kick is a boost,’ as my grandmother used to say. Things will go wrong, but for every ‘bad’ thing that happened during our preparation, something great happened.”
