The Philadelphia Phillies selected Nola seventh overall in the first round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. He signed a $3.3 million signing bonus and became a member of the Phillies on June 10.

Pitching for the Clearwater Threshers of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League in 2014, Nola had a 2-3 record and a 3.16 ERA. Then, when pitching for the Double-A Eastern League’s Reading Fightin Phils, he posted a 2.63 ERA with a 2-0 record.

Nola became the ninth-youngest player in the National League and the first pitcher from the Phillies to play in the major leagues when he joined the team in 2015.

In 2019, he agreed to a four-year, $45 million contract with the Phillies. The accord includes a $16 million fifth-year club option with a $4.25 million buyout.

The following season, Nola and teammate Zack Wheeler were tied for eleventh place with 2.0 Wins Above Replacement when compared to major league pitchers.
