Abdal and Nadiya Hussain: Dating, Marriage, and Children
Abdal Hussain is the ideal partner for any woman. Sharing messages such as “So proud of my lovely wife @BegumNadiya.” When I think she’s done everything, she keeps doing more” on his social media, his scores as a husband only improve over time.
This is why his Milton Keynes living wife has been outspoken about the value of determination and commitment in marriage. She said everything about her marriage on her BBC One shows The Chronicles of Nadiya.
“I had an arranged marriage and learned that you must persevere and remember that we are all human and have flaws. Clearly, my husband Abdal has more flaws than I do! We had to go through the good and the bad to get to the other side. Love is a strange thing… It sneaks up on you and smacks you across the face. I didn’t know my husband until we had two children and I fell in love with him.”
Nadiya and Abdal married in 2004 during an Islamic wedding ceremony organized by their parents. They exchanged vows again fourteen years later, in December 2018, simply because Nadiya felt they had never done the proper vows in England.
Nadiya admitted that her first wedding day was one of the worst days of her life and that she cried the entire day. She was nineteen at the time, and her marriage to Abdal was arranged after only meeting him once. And, in light of those negative experiences, she says she is adamantly opposed to her children having an arranged marriage someday.
Regardless of how difficult the journey has been, they are more in love than ever.
They have three children: Musa, 14, Dawud, 13, and Maryam, 10. (ages as of Dec. 2021). They were also considering expanding their family by adopting a fourth child at the time. Nadiya explained to the ‘Netmums Sweat, Snot, and Tears’ podcast about becoming parents again once they are emotionally in the right place.
