Actor Jonathan Majors has been arrested on allegations of strangling, assault, and harassment. Saturday, Mr. Majors, who co-stars with Michael B. Jordan in the just-released picture, was involved in a domestic argument with a 30-year-old woman, according to the New York Police Department.
“The victim reported being assaulted to police,” a police official stated.
Jonathan Majors was temporarily detained. The 33-year-old actor’s attorney denied any misconduct.
The NYPD reported receiving a 911 call from an apartment in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood at 11:14 p.m. local time.
The woman reportedly sustained minor head and neck injuries and was transported to the hospital.
An NYPD official confirmed to the Associated Press that he was released from custody on Saturday evening.
In a statement received by the BBC, Mr. Majors’ attorney said his client was “totally innocent” and that he was the victim of an incident with a woman he knew.
Priya Chaudhry said:
“We are rapidly compiling and submitting information to the District Attorney in anticipation that all charges will be dropped in the near future.”
“This evidence includes video footage from the vehicle in which this incident occurred, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the incident and, most importantly, two written statements from the woman in which she denies these charges.
All evidence demonstrates that Mr. Majors is completely innocent and did not abuse her in any way.
The actor was arrested just weeks after presenting an award at the Oscars.
After making his debut in 2019’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco, his career took off, and he went on to star in the Netflix western The Harder They Fall and the Marvel Comics picture Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania.
Creed III, a boxing film released earlier this month, stars Mr. Majors as Jordan’s antagonist.
