South Korean legal officials said that the actor O Yeong-su, who is most known for his role in Squid Game, has been charged with sexual misconduct.
According to the allegations made by the authorities, the 78-year-old man inappropriately touched a woman in 2017.
According to the reports provided by the local media, O Yeong-su has refuted the claim.
After his portrayal in the top-grossing thriller on Netflix earlier this year, he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the category of best supporting actor in a series, becoming the first South Korean actor to ever do so.
According to Yonhap news agency, the alleged victim presented the police with a complaint against Mr. O for the very first time in December of last year. Despite this, the investigation was wrapped up in April with no charges being filed against Mr. O.
According to the report from the agency, the inquiry has now been reopened by the prosecution “at the request of the victim.”
It is said that Mr. O has now been charged without being detained.
According to local sources that were quoted by the AFP news agency, the decision to stop showing a government commercial starring Mr. O was made after the charge was brought against the culture ministry in Seoul.
