Following an accident that left him in a coma, Adam had 25 surgeries between the sixth grade and his first year of high school. He had his legs amputated since he was in danger of losing them. The actor barely regained his ability to walk after two years of being in a wheelchair. When Adam DeVine was eleven years old, he was struck by a cement truck and gave up on his childhood dream of being a baseball great.
Adam didn’t comprehend what had happened until he was struck by a cement truck while he was riding his bicycle across the street with a friend. Adam gives a startlingly detailed account of the tragic accident in The Things. He said he was spit out by the car after it snatched him beneath its wheels and sent him sliding for over 500 feet. When Adam DeVine was just eleven years old, he was in a tragic accident that almost cost him both of his legs. He and his family had recently relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, where the incident took place. It was summertime just before sixth grade, and he’d just made some new friends. When the unthinkable happened, DeVine and his companions were headed to the convenience store.
He took one of his friends’ exclamations of “Come on!” to mean that he could cross the road while pushing a bicycle. The actor was put into a medically induced coma and kept there for two weeks. When his lung collapsed, doctors considered amputating his legs. DeVine was found at the hospital by his parents.
They found out about his hospitalization because his mother was at the zoo with her friends when she received a message from the concession booth urging her to call a specific number.
Adam DeVine Underwent Over 20 Surgeries
According to DeVine, he underwent 26 surgeries between his first year of high school and the sixth grade. In addition, he was unable to walk and discussed his experience on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in October 2019. However, DeVine recovered fully and was spared the loss of his legs. The actor credits a bad encounter for his foray into humor.
He was made to use a wheelchair after the incident, and people made fun of him. His father pushed him to use words instead of force as he was unable to defend himself physically. Besides, he told him to think of something funny to say to them. Taking the words to heart, he rushed away untouchable.
Having experienced such a terrible incident as a child, DeVine now donates to Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. He recounted his experience in the hospital to his Instagram followers in November 2017, including a throwback picture of himself lying in bed.
