In 2019, he was named Waterford’s Policeman of the Year. Lapkowski, a Waterford local, graduated from Waterford High School in 2003 after attending Great Neck School as a child.

He attended the University of Connecticut at Avery Point for two years before enrolling at Southern Connecticut State University to study finance.

Why Did Adam Lapkowski Commit Suicide as a Waterford Police Officer?

People have been asking questions regarding the death of a Waterford police officer, who recently committed suicide.

On Monday afternoon, a Preston Police officer committed suicide beside his mother’s grave.

Waterford Police Officer Adam Lapkowski, 37, was discovered dead at the Poquetanuck Cemetery on Route 2A by state and municipal authorities.

“Adam had a fantastic personality. “He was one of our best cops, well-liked, very skilled, and highly respected,” Waterford Chief of Police Marc Balestracci said.

“He was a friend, a guide, and a huge help to our cops and the community.” His legacy will continue to have an impact on many individuals.”

On Monday afternoon, state and local police reacted to a Waterford Police advisory to be on the lookout for a troubled male driving a vehicle and possibly carrying a weapon.

According to Ledyard Police Chief John Rich, the radio warning was received by his department at 12:07 p.m. State Police and Ledyard Police arrived at the cemetery at 12:18 p.m. and 12:20 p.m., respectively.

According to a State Police investigation, Lapkowski was located lying on the ground and not breathing. He was declared dead on the scene by emergency medical services.

Joanne Witt-Lapkowski, who died in 1996, was laid to rest in the cemetery. She was the biological mother of Lapkowski.

Scott McLeod admits to killing Witt-Lapkowski, 40, during a quarrel at her Norwich flat.

He was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with his release date set for 2036. According to State Police, Lapkowski’s death is still being investigated.

Family of Adam Lapkowski: Meet His Parents

Adam was a little tight-lipped about his personal information, such as his family details, because the police officer had not given much about Adam’s family.

However, Adam’s uncle and adoptive Father, John Lapkowski, said on Wednesday that his son “always wanted to be a Police officer” since he was a boy.

Few people, he noted, “get to be what they wanted when they were kids.” He remembered his son as a superb basketball player.

He played three seasons of varsity basketball at Waterford High School before transferring to UConn Avery Point for two seasons.

As a child, Lapkowski said that his son was brilliant and did well in arithmetic and reading. He recalls taking Adam and his friends to Yankee Stadium for family meals.

“I always used to grab this guy and say, “I love this tiny man,” he said of his son. It’s unfortunate, he added.

“I’m just crushed, and I’m wondering if there was any way I could have discovered he was in trouble and tried to pick him up.”

Lapkowski’s wife, Shana Golden, and their two sons are left behind. Lapkowski’s divorce from Golden was still pending at the time of his death, having been filed in November.

Rich, the head of Ledyard, commented, “It’s tragic.” We are thinking and praying for the officer’s family and his coworkers at the Waterford Police Department.
