He acquired his training as a chartered accountant before beginning his journalistic profession, and he started his broadcasting career with the Hospital Broadcasting Service in Glasgow.

When he took up hosting responsibilities for the Saturday late-night program in January 1984, Ken transitioned from being a stand-in presenter on Radio 2 to starting to regularly appear for the station.

The BBC broadcaster was formally admitted into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame in December 2008.

After departing from BBC Radio 2, where is Ken Bruce going?

After 31 years of presenting the daily mid-morning program on BBC Radio 2, Ken revealed on air that he is quitting the station.

On January 17, 2023, Bruce made it known that he would be departing BBC Radio 2 to work on other projects outside of the organization, including presenting a brand-new mid-morning program for Greatest Hits Radio.

According to Mirror, a morning tweet from BBC Radio 2 first announced 71-year-old Ken’s choice. The tweet said that Ken Bruce has chosen to stop hosting the 9:30 am–midday program after 31 years.

In August 2007, Davina McCall temporarily filled in for the BBC presenter while he was on vacation, which resulted in more than 150 listener complaints.

In September 2018, Ken took over as patron of Stoke Mandeville Hospital Radio from Freda Roberts, a longtime supporter, and co-founder of the station who had served as the previous mayor of Aylesbury.

Ken Bruce: Is He Retiring?

On January 17, 2023, Ken announced his retirement after more than three decades of service.

The BBC host moved to join rival station Greatest Hits Radio after leaving his most popular program slot on British radio.

According to a release from Greatest Hits Radio, Ken said that Popmaster would replace Mark Goodier as the daily host from 10 am to 1 pm beginning on April 3, 2023.

According to figures from the industry group Rajar, the BBC asserts that the Radio 2 host, known for its daily Popmaster quiz, presently has more than 8.5 million weekly listeners.

The replacement for Bruce has not yet been announced by the BBC. However, Radio 2 often gives presenters on its current roster promotions.

For Bruce’s position, candidates including Trevor Nelson, Rylan Clark, Claudia Winkleman, Dermot O’Leary, and Jo Whiley may be taken into consideration.

Ken Bruce’s Professional Life and Earnings

In 2021–2022, the Radio Hall of Famer earned between £385,000 and £389,999, according to the most recent BBC annual report.

He joined the BBC in 1977 and began hosting BB Radio 2 in 1984, making him one of the program’s long-serving presenters.

In addition to his journalistic profession, he won one episode of Celebrity Mastermind with the P.G. Wodehouse Jeeves books as his specialty.
