Rick Allen, drummer for Def Leppard, thanks fans for their support after he was assaulted last week in Florida. In a series of tweets published on Sunday evening, Allen said, “Thank you all for your incredible support. Your love and prayers are incredibly beneficial.”
On March 13, police arrested Max Hartley, 19, for allegedly assaulting a 59-year-old man outside the Four Seasons hotel in Fort Lauderdale.
Hartley allegedly walked up behind Allen and threw him to the ground.
According to a police incident record acquired by ABC News, he has subsequently been charged with four counts of criminal mischief, a felony; one case of misdemeanor battery and one count of aggravated battery.
The alleged incident occurred one day after the band performed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, according to the authorities.
A woman who attempted to assist was also allegedly attacked by Hartley, according to the police.
Allen stated in his statement that his wife Lauren Monroe “was not with me at the time of the incident.
“We are now recovering together in a secure environment,” the statement added, adding that they are committed to “healing for all parties involved.”
“We ask that you join us in our effort to shift from confusion and shock to compassion and empathy,” stated the statement.
“We recognize that an act of violence can be traumatic for so many individuals. We are thinking of all the fans, veterans, and first responders in our global community. Together with love, we can overcome these challenging times.”
According to ABC News, Allen, who lost his arm in a vehicle accident in 1984, banged his head after Hartley’s claimed attack.
Feral and Hysteria-era Def Leppard, who are presently on a world tour, will perform in their hometown of Sheffield on May 22 at Bramall Lane.
Following finishing the European portion of their tour, the band will return to the United States in August for a series of performances.
