She added her name to the Gelobnis Treuester Gefolgschaft (“Proclamation of Loyalty of German Writers”) in 1933, professing her allegiance to Adolf Hitler. She began writing at a young age and had received the Kleist Prize for her lyric poetry by the time she was in her early thirties.
