When Aisling Bea was three years old, her father committed suicide.

Aisling Bea was born in County Kildare, Ireland, on March 16, 1984, under the name Aisling Cliodhanadh O’Sullivan. Her mother Helen O’Sullivan (née Moloney) and father Brian O’Sullivan welcomed her into the world.

When Bea was three years old, her horse doctor father, Brian, took his own life. She was only aware of her father’s 13-year-old death, though.

Although the cause of his suicide is unknown, the comedian acknowledged in an interview that she still looks up to her father. She honored her late father by taking on the stage name “Bea.”

Bea’s mother, a high school teacher, reared her and her younger sister, Sinead O’Sullivan, by herself following the tragedy. She attended a Catholic convent school to receive her education.
