The 49-year-old celebrity explained how African singers’ stage demeanor differs from that of Black Americans during an appearance on an episode of the Zeze Millz Show. When asked about the Africans, Akon stated that they have a distinct stage presence. He then commented on the African-American performers, saying:

“Now in America, they n***** will be wobbling, pants half down, bored as h*ll, half asleep because they high as h*ll on stage.”

He went on to say:

“However, [in] Africa, we get up early. Take a look at these YouTube videos of Ugandan teenagers. As if these children are actors. So it’s nothing out of the ordinary for us.”

After Akon’s footage from Zeze Millz’s interview went viral, Twitterati chastised him for unfairly comparing African and American singers. Several people mentioned well-known American musicians such as Beyoncé and Michael Jackson, who have left their imprint on the industry.

Younger musicians such as Kendrick Lamar and Tyler, the Creator have also become successful, according to some. Others simply claimed that the artist made a fortune by “cosplaying” Black Americans and became a billionaire as a result.

Akon was also chastised for comments about Nick Cannon’s family

However, this isn’t Akon’s only recent criticism; he’s also been chastised for his support for Nick Cannon and his growing family. Cannon, who is expecting his 12th child, expressed his support for the Beautiful singer during the same interview. The artist stated that he agreed with Cannon that this is how life should be. The former described Cannon as wealthy, responsible, and concerned about the children, and added:

“And the nursing mothers are on board. And they cause no harm. They also get along well. He is available to all of them. He is there for every single one of those children. I have nine, and I’m available for all of them.”

During a discussion about parenthood, the presenter was asked if he would attend his children’s activities and if he would attend every single recital in which his children participated. This elicits a response from the Smack.

That singer responded by saying it was a “white man’s thing” to inquire about who was interested in the performances. He went on to say that it was his responsibility to teach the children responsibility and empathy, as well as to protect and help their mothers.

Akon went on to say that his role was to teach his children about family planning and how to be responsible citizens. He went on to say that it is his responsibility to provide a home and food for his family, as well as to raise his children to be responsible and strong. Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam is the singer’s real name, and he and his wife Tomeka Thiam have nine children.
