Alex Hales Controversy: Failed Drug Test, Was He Suspened?

Alex Hales

A failed drug test by English cricketer Alex Hales resulted in a 21-day suspension in 2019 before the World Cup.

Alex Hales is a right-handed opening hitter for Nottinghamshire and the England cricket team. His full name is Alexander Daniel Hales.

The English cricketer made his Test debut against South Africa in December 2015 after making his One Day International (ODI) debut against India in August 2014.

The 34-year-old took part in England’s victory against India in today’s T20 World Cup quarterfinal at Adelaide Oval. He was not out and had scored 86 runs.

Alex Hales controversy: 21-day suspension after failing a drug test

Hales has a lot of talent, but he hasn’t always been without controversy. Alex was informed that he has been cut from the team before the 2019 50-Over World Cup after failing a second test for recreational drugs.

In April 2019, a hair follicle test revealed that he had used a recreational substance. Since it was his second infraction, the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) imposed a 21-day suspension on him.

In addition, he was dropped from the England roster for the 2019 Cricket World Cup as well as from all other teams before the start of the international campaign.

A worsening of the situation led to the right-hander withdrawing from Nottinghamshire’s Royal London One Day Cup campaign for “personal reasons.”

Alex described how it was agonizing and his biggest dread to be left out of the World Cup team in an interview with the Guardian. Even more agonizing was seeing the squad succeed without him.

The cricket player stated, “Of course, it was fantastic to see the team lift the cup, but at the same time, it eats at you from the inside that you should have been part of it, and you weren’t.”

Alex Was Associated With Another Debate In 2017

Controversies are nothing new for Alex Hales. The Bristol Crown Court tried Alex and Ben Stokes in September 2017 for their involvement in a brawl outside a Bristol nightclub.

On September 26, 2017, Alex and Ben got into a fight with Ryan Ali and Ryan Hale outside the Mbargo nightclub. After an ODI match against the West Indies at the city’s County Ground, the event happened.

The two cricket players’ reputations suffered even though they weren’t accused of any crimes.

Furthermore, Alex was given a six-match suspension and a £17,500 fine by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Nevertheless, four of those contests were banned, resulting in a two-game suspension and a £10,000 fine for him.

Later, the English batter said it had opened his eyes to how quickly things may spiral out of control. He insisted that he had discovered a lesson the hard way.

Additionally, the cricketer was embroiled in a racism issue for which he subsequently expressed regret. He received it for a blackface outfit that he had worn to a 2009 New Year’s Eve party.

Alex Hales: Was he arrested? How did he behave while under the ban?

Alex Hales didn’t give up hope despite not being a part of the national team. He kept on playing cricket for franchises all around the globe.

He acted as a representative for organizations such as the Rangpur Riders, Durban Heat, Barbados Tridents, Sydney Thunder, Trent Rockets, and Karachi Kings during that period.

Alex also had success with Trent Rockets in 2022 and Karachi Kings in 2020, when he was an important opener.

He represented Sydney Thunder and completed the 2020–21 Big Bash League season as the league’s leading scorer.

For three years, Alex was ignored by England because of a slew of scandals. To make up for the lost time, he has returned from the ‘very painful’ exile.
