Personal Life
Silverstein described her experience of meeting the guy of her dreams in one of her interviews with The New York Times. She tells how she was going to launch her endeavor in early 2020, at the start of COVID. Her deeds led her to meet the love of her life. She had a connection with Chuck Close when she was about 20 or 21 years old, nearly 20 years ago. Chuck Close rose to prominence in 1970 as a result of his gigantic and photorealistic portraits. From the neck down, he was paralyzed. His arms regained some movement, allowing him to brush the colors, strap his hands, and create portraits.
Chuck’s relationship
Ali Silverstein first met Chuck Close in 2001, when she was in her early twenties and a senior at Columbia University studying art and comparative religion. He was 61 at the time. After she graduated, they began meeting for lunches and separate morning works. Close, on the other hand, supported and encouraged her while she pursued her dream of being an artist. Some of their activities brought them closer together, and they began dating. Chuck requested Ali to pose naked for him on the spur of the moment. Close has been a pillar in Ali’s life, she realized.
But she was uneasy and offered a deal: “If you will pose naked for me, then I will pose naked for you.” This response brought the conversation to a close. Ali thought it was a childish request, but it was her inner instinct that she felt was balancing the relationship from both sides. Over time, the duo began eating lunches regularly, and despite their 40-year age difference, a love developed between them. Chuck informed Silverstein that when he became disabled, his wife never made personal contact with him. This could be real or false, but she had no choice but to believe him.
Controversy
Years later, a number of women came forwards to accuse Chuck of sexual harassment. It was reported that Chuck made those women pose naked for him, to which Chuck responded that we were all adults and that if anything made anyone uncomfortable at the time, he is sorry. When Silverstein came to read these statements, she was able to tie the story to her own. She was saddened and perplexed by her involvement with the individual who harassed someone else. She had the impression that she loved someone who made other women feel violated. But, years later, when she decided to contact him, she learned that Chuck had died in August 2021.
