Alice Glass and Ethan Kath started working on the idea that would become Crystal Castles in December 2003. She chose the stage name Alice Glass after stealing a pin with the names Alice and Hopey Glass, a figure from Love and Rockets.
Crystal Castles debuted with the song “Alice Practice” in 2006. The band’s first record deal with London’s Merok Records was secured thanks to the song.
The same year, Toronto’s Clinton’s Tavern hosted Crystal Castles’ first live performance. Finally, in their 2008 self-titled first album, the song “Alice Practice” appeared.
