Dan Shulman went into sports writing despite having a background in actuarial science. In the early stages of his career, Dan Shulman hosted shows for a number of different networks.

From 1992 to 1994, he hosted Blue Jays pre- and post-game broadcasts on the Telemedia Sports Network and various weekend programs on ESPN Radio.

In addition to hosting The Major League Report and Baseball Today for The Fan, he was the host of The Leafs League Report, a weekly magazine show about the Toronto Maple Leafs, on CFTO from 1992 to 1995. In addition, he was the host of Prime Time Sports, a sports radio program heard across Canada.

Dan also covered the 1994 FIBA World Basketball Championship in Toronto, Canada, and the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, for Canadian Television (CTV).

After that, in 1995, he started working for ESPN, where he contributed to numerous sports shows. He was a commentator for ESPN’s baseball broadcasts from 2002 to 2007, including Wednesday Night Baseball and the regular season.
