How did David Filo start his Professional Career?

David Filo’s career story began when he met Jerry Yang at Stanford University. While working on a project to build computer chips, the two doctoral candidates hit it off right away. They, on the other hand, did not find the task attractive, and when their teacher left, neither did they. They spent most of their time online surfing, which was a fun diversion from their boring academics.

Even though there were numerous humorous and “cool” websites, people couldn’t find the one they had previously visited because there was no good classification system in place. The two young men decided to collaborate to develop a framework or road map for internet users. They created a search engine that allowed users to find their desired website by just inputting the relevant terms.

They began posting the list online in early 1994. The list was dubbed David and Jerry’s Guide to the Web. They gave the list the name “Yahoo!” as it grew. Yahoo! grew in popularity over time, reaching one million daily users four years later. Several large online companies indicated an interest in acquiring Yahoo! However, the couple refused to sell it.

The pair was expelled from the Stanford administration because the administration was dissatisfied with their performance. After being expelled from school, the two decided to transform Yahoo! into a legal firm. They came across venture capitalist Mike Moritz, who handed the company a million dollars. Tim Koogle was chosen as CEO and President, and they hired classmates and interns.

Filo and Yang have remained loyal to their clients and created an unrivaled portal of educational convenience in the market because their original purpose was to educate other users through the bewildering network of websites, not to profit their company.
