He is a skilled drummer who studied with the neighborhood jazz musician Al Reed. His classmates dubbed him Fizz because of his unique hair, and he later went by that name. He made his stage debut at the age of 12 in March 1977.

Additionally, after completing his degree, he was offered an apprenticeship with the regional bus company, West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive, and he started working on buses at the PTE’s Dudley garage. When Fuzz joined former Beat frontman Ranking Roger and his band General Public, he was able to launch his musical career and go on U.S. tours as a result.

He was then invited to join Pop Will Itself, a local indie band, and played drums for them for the subsequent 4.5 years. They toured North America with Nine Inch Nails, and their singles and albums both peaked in the United Kingdom charts.

His debut solo single, Hello Darling, peaked at No. 51 on the UK charts in 1996. He signed a record deal with Echo Records the following year. His first album, Far In, came out in the UK in 1999, and his second, Fuzz Townshend, came out in 2002.

After that, in 2004, he started working as a part-time college lecturer, giving lectures on technology and music practice. During this period, his former band PWEI decided to reunite. He mentioned a desire to work at a car shop in addition to his artistic pursuits.

A TV production company invited him to his Westgate Classical garage to participate in a screen test for the new show Car SOS. He received a job offer there, and the establishment was selected as the show’s backdrop.
