From 1977 until 1985, Edwards was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League, where he helped the team win Super Bowl XV. Edwards served as a defensive assistant at San Jose State from 1987 to 1989 after his playing days were over. Arizona State had a 7-6 record after his rookie campaign. As of the start of the 2019 season, Edwards named true freshman Jayden Daniels as the Sun Devils’ quarterback. Arizona State started the season unbeaten, highlighted by Edwards’ second straight triumph over a highly ranked Michigan State Spartans team. With a victory over the Florida State Seminoles in the Sun Bowl, the team’s record was 8-5 overall.
